On-board waste water systems

Give clean water back to the river

Custom-fit for existing installations in inland shipping

You want to discharge a vessel’s wastewater into the river as cleanly as possible. That’s better for people and nature, and it keeps you compliant with current regulations.

Trikwatr upgrades existing wastewater systems on inland shipping vessels so they can discharge clean water, in line with the new regulations. We help you keep costs as low as possible while saving valuable space on board the vessel.

New regulations

Good bacteria that purify water

Is it really that simple? Yes. You already know them: the same good bacteria used in wastewater treatment plants on land. Our secret? They can live on a very small surface.

No new installation needed

On the Trikwatr MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor)*, the aerobic bacteria thrive and do their job well. We adapt the existing installation on board so the MBBR can be integrated. This means we deliver a tailor-made solution, so you never need to install a complete new system. And your vessel never needs to be rebuilt.

How it works.

The diagram shows which elements we integrate with your existing water treatment installation.

The wastewater is screened to separate out coarse waste. This sludge is collected in a special collection bin or bag.

The screened wastewater flows into the bio-tank, where the MBBR does its work. Oxygen supply and mixing equipment together always maintain a constant, optimal climate for the aerobic bacteria.

After treatment in the bio-tank, the water continues on to the membrane tank. Here, the water is filtered once more to remove the last remaining sludge. This sludge is also collected in a special waste bin or bag.

The wastewater is now clean and clear, and can flow back into the river.

Decide in time

Since 2009, a discharge ban has applied to wastewater from passenger vessels carrying more than 50 passengers. A holding tank or onboard treatment system meeting the latest requirements is mandatory. Enforcement is increasing, so don’t wait too long to decide.
